staring at blank walls and holding empty conversations

I spent all day today at the Fairview University Medical Center. I got up at 6:30 AM (having gone to bed at 3 mind you), drove downtown and stayed at the hospital until well past 7 pm... and now I'm going back. 9 of those hours, my mother was in surgery.

The surgery went well.

Of course, well in this case means that there aren't all sorts of extra tubes and bags hanging out of my mother's body... well there are at the moment, but they will go away in good time. But I am betting that unless by some miracle she recovers very fast, she will be in the hospital at least a week. 5 days at the very least because I'm sure they'll keep her in there until they know her systems are working right and they can pull the PNT tubes.

It was odd. A decision had to be made during surgery today and after it was made (since it was obvious), I had to sit and listen to Dad and Grandma spend the next half an hour trying to make themselves comfortable with the decision they made. I'm glad my father doesn't have power of attorney over my mother's medical issues. VERY glad. Which is a cruel thing to say, but oh well.

Nine. Hours. I am staying here until Tuesday. Eat it, Leaska.
