Photos and stories, so much for a day

location: Labity

We found a wedding photographer today.

I think I'd found her online through a Facebook ad or something like that, after etler and I had agreed that having good wedding photography was important to us, and, as we don't want to have both a photographer and videographer, we wanted photos to tell the story of our day.

We like that this photographer has a very photojournalistic style, that she clearly appreciates emotion and detail and that those are the kinds of things she tries to capture in her photos... (and things she captures beautifully, I think). I like that we left our meeting with her feeling confident that she'll deal well with shifting lighting conditions, that she'll take advantage of the interesting architecture in our location, that we feel like as much as we want things to be elegant and formal, elegant and formal is a kind of play for us. We throw themed costume parties because we like dressing up.

We also liked her turnaround time, what we get for the price we're paying, that we get digital negatives of all of the photos she takes, etc.

So, two of five High Priority items for our wedding are done.

(We made a list: The things that matter most to us are our location, dress -- both his and mine, photos (since really, we're only planning to throw a party like this once), drinks and cake. Probably also music, in one way or another, given the way it connects both of us to people that we really want to honor and remember. So maybe it's only two of six things. But. As the proverb goes, when you have a jar, and some rocks, and some sand, if you put the sand in first, the rocks won't fit. So at least the two things that are done are rocks. And we've been working toward the remaining rocks. Plans are coming together, if slowly, and mostly in my head. Eventually, I will get around to externalizing them and asking for help. But help is easier to ask for and easier to get when one can be specific about precisely the sort of help one needs).

Also, wedding related: I am so so so glad to have friends who have had weddings recently, done bits and pieces of planning themselves, are in various stages of planning... so that we can share all kinds of thoughts and advice and so on. Glad for discussions with a friend of mine who's getting married soon who also has the tricky question of how to honor and remember a dead loved one who's been such a part of oneself and one's life ... without making the wedding a wake.

Discovering that there is a lot to think about. (I don't believe that there will ever come another day in my life that I give this much attention and planning to. Famous last words, I suppose, but that is quite beside the point). Really really a lot. Which is a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. Glad to have people to share it with.

I've been away from blogging for far too long. I want to record everything that's been happening lately. Hopefully I'll find time to make notes of some of it.

What, you're not using Raymond?

Other rocks/sand - do let me know if I can help in any way.
...unless you're not inviting me - then you can bugger right off!

As much as I love Raymond and his photos, I think he might really scare my conservative, traditional, midwestern family... ;-)

What location did you choose for your wedding? And how did you find it?
