Memes are nifty. Or at least, this one is.

I thought this was pretty darn cool:

1.Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions and leave the answers as comments on my LJ
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Questions from mrhotpocket

1) When did you start dancing and why?

I could answer something really glamorous here like I started dancing because it was a fundamental way to relate to music and that was important to me (which is true, but is not why I started). My actual story is far less glamorous. I started dancing when I was 3 because I had really severe scholiosis of the spine (to the point that I couldn't really walk normally). The treatment would normally have been 3 sessions/week of PT, but instead my parents found a dance teacher who was willing to work with my doctors to do PT-like things but in a much more socially-acceptable context. By the time I didn't need dancing for PT purposes, it was an integral part of my life... and continues to be.

2) What is it about New York that appealed to you?

Broadway. I fell in love with NYC because of its availability of theatre. But also the way in which it doesn't try to put people in little defining boxes. I felt, from the very first time that I visited, that double majoring in Dramatic Literature and Neural Science would be really okay there... people would actually think it was cool that I had that many passions. I also just loved the energy that the city has. I don't know how to describe it other than there is something that feels exciting and alive there all the time that I don't really get from anyplace else.

3) Who is your super-secret celebrity crush?

Justin Timberlake. And if you believe that, I think there's a bridge to Hawaii on sale right now for real cheap.

This is really sad, but I honestly don't have any celebrity crushes.

4) Ultimate karaoke song, and why?
Depends on the situation of Karaoke. As a solo while drunk at a karaoke bar, "I Did It My Way" because it is a great song for being sentimental over and slurring words, and tends to somehow sound even better when sung off key (provided drunken word-slurring is included). Especially with asian boy-band dance videos playing as the background images. Otherwise "Baby Got Back." Which should be self-explanatory.

5) Pick: Lindy hop or West Coast Swing. one is about to disappear - which will you save?

That's really hard. But I think if I can only save one, it has to be West Coast Swing. It fits with such a wide variety of music, which gives it a lot of variation. Plus the girl gets to hijack the dance periodically and has the most freedom of any partnering dance.
