My brother is competing this weekend in the Vs. ProCircuit Tournament here in SF, which is awesome as I get to hang out with him and introduce him to the delight that is sushi and so on, but has the disadvantage that the bay bridge has more closings and construction than usual.

Generally, this would not be much of a problem, as if it were me, I would just take BART and figure out what MUNI busses go to Fort Mason Center (or close vicinity). But I like public transit, and am very comfortable with the idea and process of taking a lengthy and bizarre combination of trains/busses/other public transit vehicles/walking long distances to get from point A to point B. (Also, I am more anti-Bay-Bridge than usual since being yelled at by the man in the toll booth yesterday for not holding my money far enough out my window. grr.) Unfortunately, Edina/Minneapolis (from whence my brother visits) has no public transit to speak of, unless one is right downtown, so I think Ben's experience with public transit is pretty minimal, and I would feel badly if I gave bad directions or transit got icky and he missed some important part of his tournament. So I feel at least somewhat responsible for getting him here. Which isn't so terrible, as the westbound stuff is open... but getting home will not be fun.

Also: learned this morning that the Fort Mason Center Parking Lot, which used to be my favorite lot in SF because it is large, often has parking available and oh, FREE!, has started charging money for the privilege of parking there. Sadness.

If he has to go over another day, you could public transit over with him ... and then he'd know the ropes. :~) Or if you're there past the bridge closing, you can always take him back over the GG - that's always a fun San Francisco experience. :~)

Given his reaction to public transit (slight confusion -- like 'we're taking a bus to get somewhere... how odd) when I wanted to take the bus to downtown Berkeley this morning to avoid the hell that is parking there, I'm really glad I didn't send him that way yesterday. Esp as the public transit in the bay area is more ecclectic than most. :-P
