Baby Earthquakes

I think I just felt my first earthquake/aftershock. There was a moment of my house creaking and the ground shaking... then normal stability. And slight rumbling sound.

So I checked the US government website reocording recent earthquake activity, and lo and behold, there was an earthquake of magnitude 2.7 recorded at 2:01 AM, very close to the time that I felt said ground shaking, that seems to have happened 2 miles away. (And their handy map of what people reported feeling for said earthquake notes "weak - light shaking" and no damage in a bunch of areas near where I live).

Fairly certain it was an earthquake that I felt. Though a baby one, certainly.

Apparently this is normal, here, but it's the first time since I've lived here (now over a year!) that I've felt any such thing.

My first earthquake. Welcome to California. :-P

I felt one in Southern California while I was working at JPL. Being in a really tall building during an Earthquake is lots of fun, for everything sways much more.

It was very funny during the tremors that the scientists ran for the doorways trying to estimate its magnitude, shouting their guesses down the hall.

Yeah. California is great!
